TOE STEPPING TIME

Recently, I saw a news bulletin about an American business flying another country's flag above the United States flag outside their store.

By my understanding, the only time another country's flag should be flown above the home country's flag is when they are at war and the invading country wins the war.

The flag behind me is an Italian flag because my father was Italian. At the entrance of my house is the United States flag. By blood I am Italian, by allegiance I am an American.

Every individual, living in the United States, should be proud of their heritage and show it. At the same time, we are all a part of the United States of America (a young country, consisting of individual states uniting together as one). These UNITED STATES have held their own among some of the most powerful countries of the world.

We are no better than any other country, but we do have a reason to express pride in our country. In just over 400 years, we have been born, grown, fought among ourselves for certain freedoms, recovered from numerous wars, and still are holding our own in the world. Not many countries can make that statement.

We have befriended needy countries and other countries have befriended us. We hold trust in these countries and with their help, try to assist other growing countries.

Am I proud to be an American? If I were not, I would be flying another flag in THAT COUNTRY!

Like a newborn baby.

G-Rated

Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement center were sitting on a bench under a tree when one turns to the other and says: "Slim, I'm 83 years old now and I'm just full of aches and pains. I know you're about my age. How do you feel?"

Slim says, "I feel just like a newborn baby."

"Really!? Like a newborn baby!?"

"Yep. No hair, no teeth, and I think I just wet my pants."
